HOMETOWN HERO CAPTURES TROPHY AT CARFAX 250

Columbia Native Carl Edwards Wins NASCAR Nationwide Series Race; Carfax Dedicates Race to Late CJM Car Chief

August 17, 2008
BROOKLYN, Mich. – Columbia, Mo. natives Carl Edwards and CARFAX have brought home the CARFAX 250 trophy to Missouri. Edwards won the third NASCAR Nationwide Series CARFAX 250 on Aug. 16 at Michigan International Speedway.

“This is a great day for the city of Columbia, Carl Edwards and CARFAX,” said Larry Gamache, communications director at CARFAX. “Columbia has been home to CARFAX for 22 years and thanks to Carl Edwards, its now home for the CARFAX 250 trophy.”

Edwards nearly won the inaugural Carfax 250 three years ago. Instead, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was declared the winner after a controversial finish that erupted into a winner’s circle confrontation between Edwards and Earnhardt, Jr.

This year’s CARFAX 250 was dedicated to Steve “Big Guy” Helwig, longtime car chief for CJM Racing. Helwig passed away Friday morning after a battle with leukemia. CARFAX was the lead sponsor of the #11 Chevrolet, owned by CJM Racing and driven by Jason Keller in the Carfax 250 for the past two years.
