BROOKLYN, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Steve Harwell, lead singer for the popular rock band 'Smash Mouth', today was named grand marshal of the CARFAX 250 NASCAR Busch Series race at Michigan International Speedway. Following the conclusion of the CARFAX 250, Harwell and the other members of Smash Mouth will perform a free concert for fans attending the race.
The CARFAX 250 will take place on Saturday, August 18 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich.
“There’s more excitement surrounding this year’s CARFAX 250 than ever before,” said Larry Gamache, communications director at CARFAX . “Steve Harwell of Smash Mouth is kicking off the race as grand marshal and Miss Michigan is singing the national anthem. It’s going to be an incredible day that we hope everyone will remember forever.”
Kirsten Haglund, Miss Michigan 2007, will perform the national anthem during pre-race ceremonies. Haglund will compete in the Miss America scholarship pageant in January, where her talent will be operetta vocal.
Smash Mouth has sold more than 5.5 million records in the United States since releasing its first album in 1997. Harwell also appeared as a cast member on VH1's reality series, "The Surreal Life".
